None of this makes any sense at all🤷 When looking at longitudinal data from ice core samples it’s clear to see we are just coming out of a cold period in earths long history. We are way colder now than at previous periods in time. CO2 is also at a very low level compared to historical data and the upward trend we have observed in the past 100 or so years is only significant when looked at in relation to the past 1000 years or so. When all this is understood over a much bigger time frame it’s just another cyclic pattern that have been going on for MILLIONS of years. Honestly I wish you would stop messing with things you actually have no idea about and make bridges or something 🙏🙏🙏

The Pratt and Whitney R-2800 was the best, air cooled radial engine produced in high volumes in WW2, I'm a little surprised this video was so scathing in their condemnation of US aircraft engines. Yes, the Allison was not the equal of the RR Merlin in high altitude performance, but the British had nothing to compare to either Wright or Pratt and Whitney on radial engines.
This is why men are rather disturbing, and indeed a little insane. The ability to discuss military matters in an entirely objective, alienated and technical fashion, as if this was a badge of commendation. Why do men find it so easy to be so fascinated with the technology of killing and destruction? It is technically impressive, but morally and psychologically degenerate. As Erich Fromm long ago noted, if you treat the world as merely a technical system of objects, to be modelled and manipulated, that is what happens to yourself. Why is it not transparently obvious to men that the vast amount of money and engineering and manufacturing resources wasted on building useless monuments to men's deranged paranoia (exemplified by obscene, exterminatory and planet-ravaging nuclear weapons) should be redirected to issues of improved health, food, disease control, women and children's health, desperate attempts to whip a modicum of psychical and moral maturity into men's minds, more vegetarian agriculture, reforestation, improved water supplies, etc, etc, etc. Men are basically irresponsible children over-endowered with technical powers, who need a great deal of further civilisation and psychical maturation at the hands of women, before being let near any more levers of social or political influence. It's km/h, not "kph", can't you people read?
imho, the main issue is that compression stroke. because of it, you need to deal with octane ratings and combustion chamber geometry. get limited to "compression ratios". "swept volumes". when i picture ANY engine as an inclined plane, they all "work wrong". bad leverage. great compressors. takes very little force on the crank to move the piston. it takes a huge amount of force on the piston to create a small force on the crank. most of the pressure goes into bearings, until its at approximately 45 degrees ATDC. the mechanism for converting force from linear to rotary is itself flawed. and there seems to be no way around it... rotors, eccentrics, swashplates, wobblers... they ALL share the same basic form of operation...
Waissi engine, proved a better movement. But dislike its piston shaft? Design as it could be less bulky
@@redvt9881 meh. nice sinusoidal motion, terrible bearing loads. that massive bearing means high speeds, high stress, and expensive. and the engine itself, its mechanical linkage... its no different to any other crank, eccentric, or other method. still has terrible mechanical advantage at TDC, still wastes all that combustion pressure in slamming bearings rather than make torque. only one i know of that does it differently is a "humphrey pump".

It's a battery-powered railbus. Germany had them in the 1950s already, and close to 100 years ago diesel-powered. It will be interesting to see whether modern technology can revive the concept. Back then, they died out for a reason though.

A well built and maintained reactor should provide power for 100 years. the reactor and spent fuel will be dangerous for 200,000 years. Is it moral to use a device whose problems will outlast its benefits 2000 times?

@@jacquelinepaul9731 Don't worry. Although what he said is formally true, in fact everything is far from so scary. Firstly, the total amount of highly radioactive waste accumulated over half a century of use is about 280,000 tons. These are mostly spent fuel rods. It seems like a lot, but if you calculate the volume of this waste taking into account the density of uranium, you get 14,000 cubic meters. This is a cube with dimensions of 24*24*24 meters. In fact, of course, more, since no one breaks old rods and puts them in one pile, but in any case, this is an insignificant amount that can be easily controlled. Secondly, of this waste, only 5 percent is actually waste. The rest can be separated and reused. And this is already being done in France and Russia. That is, the amount of waste is further reduced by 20 times. Thirdly, such a quantity can be turned into something like glass, which does not react with anything, and buried somewhere deep in the mountain, where no tectonic activity is expected. Regarding the 200,000 years of radioactivity, again it is formally true, only environmental activists do not like to say that it is decreasing very quickly. And in 1000 years their radioactivity will not be nearly as strong. Well, that is, if in a thousand years a meteorite hits the burial ground directly and disperses all this waste, then there will still be no global catastrophe. And the meteorite example is almost the most realistic version of what could go wrong. =) Well, there is also “fourthly”. These highly radioactive substances (called minor actinides) can literally be transmuted into much less dangerous substances in fast reactors. Such reactors are more complex than slow neutron reactors. In connection with this (and also due to the decrease in interest in atomic energy in recent decades), they have not become widespread. So far no one country has developed them enought for commercial use. However, technologies have been developed in all countries related to nuclear energy. Currently, Russia is closest to the commercial implementation of sodium-cooled fast reactors. It has been operating two sodium-cooled fast neutron reactors (BN-600 and BN-800) for several decades. Moreover, regarding waste, three fuel elements with the addition of minior actinides should be loaded into the BN-800 reactor this spring. P.S. I got a little carried away. =)
Still safer and better for the environment than burning coal and gas, or producing solar panels in China (where the environmental regulations are almost non-existent). All methods of power generation have a problem. For renewables, it's the materials required, and the difficulty in reclamation of materials. In coal and gas, it's the release of significant carbon emissions and toxic gases. For nuclear, it's the waste, and as @cougar4ik said so well, the waste production is actually much better than realised. Not to mention also the Synroc technology coming out of Australia for use in waste encapsulation.

dont worry, this generation of reactors waste is just fuel for the next generation of molten salt reactors that the chinese is busily building as well as turning one on this year, waste is also a source of fission products that are extremly useful for two types of generators/nuclear batteries that use the decay heat from strontium 90 [ look up russian lighthouse thermo-electric generators abandonded and harmed several people who cut them open] and ionic emissions from other things in fission products like krypton gas ect. that can emit radiation for years captured and converted directly to electricity in a battery for decades without recharging, more like a fuel cell that runs out of fuel , so waste is a big mis-nomer for this valueable resource...
I really enjoyed the talk and your book. Interesting that you say the engine has to be specifically designed to use high pressure radiators yet the DB 605 seems to have been able to use the cooling system in a Spitfire Mk5 just fine. Your slide about the 6 things that Britain did correctly did not include having access to limitless metal and fuel resources. You make that clear in your book and this video but do not list this. It is critical.
I would not say that having access to raw materials was something Britain "did" correctly, in as far as, everyone knows that is important but you either have access or you do not. Germany did stock up massive amounts of critical materials beforehand, but just did not prioritise well, and had overly ambitious goals regarding acquiring new resources (Africa, Russia etc). What they did would have just about worked for the "short war" model many in Germany hoped for. I do not think any of them envisaged a five year war. So you could say their approach to materials stocks met their unrealistic goals. The use of the Spitfire cooling system in the 605 test obviously meant that all the pipework and radiators were the originals, hence did not have radiator tubes which expanded like bicycle tyres (although there are several factors at work). Its very likely that the tests which would have meant running at elevated coolant temperatures in the 605 were not sustainable, i.e, it was probably ok for a brief test by a test pilot under carefully controlled conditions, but would never have worked in a service environment. I.e. its probable the engine would be very quickly ruined. The tests probably only needed a few hours under high temperature conditions. Being able to do it for 50 or 100 hours is an entirely different matter. Sadly it is difficult to ensure all the salient points are always mentioned in these videos as the topic is so wide ranging and complex. I am pleased you liked the book.
